WIT Libraries consist of two libraries - Luke Wadding Library, which is the main library and is located on the main campus on the Cork Road. College Street Library, a branch library, is located in the Good Shepherd Campus on College Street.
Registered staff members and students are entitled to use our libraries free of charge. Membership of both libraries is automatically conferred upon all members of the Institute community once they work or study here.
To use the library you will need your library card. Your WITcard doubles as your library card. You will use your WITcard to enter the library and borrow books. You can also use your WITcard for additional services within the library, such as interlibrary loans and photocopying. WITcards are non-transferable, and you must carry your own card to use the library facilities.
WIT Libraries collection numbers over 180,000 stock items. In addition, we subscribe to over 400 hardcopy journals, and have access to thousands of online journals and subscriptions through our database collection. The Luke Wadding Library opened in 2000 with space for 1,200 readers covering 6,000 square metres over 3 floors. The library, designed by architects A&D Wejchert, is a green building and has won a number of awards including OPUS Award 2001, DoELG Sustainable Building Award 2000 and was featured in the April edition of the Journal of the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland (2001).
The library is fully wired and contains 140 internet-enabled PCs and has been fully WiFi compliant since 2007. The building also includes a dedicated learning centre, Special Collections room, staff reading room, departmental seminar rooms, and group study areas.
During term we open for over 64 hours per week, and we have extended opening hours near and during exam periods. Keep an eye on our news section for up-to-date details on the library and our services.
