Books

The Circulation Desk is where to go to borrow and return books. The desk opens at 9.15 am and closes 15 minutes before the library is closes. You will need your WIT card for all transactions at the desk.

Books are shelved in numerical order in WIT Libraries according to subject area.
The shelving arrangement in the Luke Wadding Library is as follows :
  • Books numbered 000-499 are shelved in numerical order at Entry level in the library
    Topics covered include General works, Computer Software, Philosophy, Religion and Beliefs, Social Sciences, Language & Linguistics
  • Books numbered 500-999 are shelved in numerical order at Basement level in the library
    Topics covered include Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences, Business, Fine Arts, Architecture, Literature, History and Geography.

Books for the subject areas of Art, Education, Law, Music & Social Care are shelved in College St Campus Library.

Borrowing Rights

The Book Collection is divided into : 

  1. Long Loan Items: Students can borrow 4 long loans for 2 weeks. Long loan items can be reserved, so if the book you want to borrow is out on loan, you can put a hold on it and when it is returned, it will be held for you at the desk. Long loans can also be renewed once, so if the book that you have on loan is due back, but you are not finished with it, you can renew it unless another borrower has put a hold on it, in which case, it must be returned.
  2. Short loan : Short loan items are 2 day loans. Short loan items are labelled with a red sticker. These books are in high demand and cannot be reserved or renewed.

Students, postgraduates and staff have different borrowing rights.

NOTE : Staff and students cannot borrow without valid cards and borrowers are responsible for all items issued on their cards.

Overdue Books

If your books are overdue, you will have to pay the fines before you can use your library account again.

  • Long loan items cost € 0.50 per day overdue
  • Short loan items cost € 1.50 per day overdue
