External Borrowers

WIT Libraries is the largest Institute library outside of the greater Dublin area. Our collections number more than 180,000 items ranging from the life & works of Leonardo Da Vinci to the latest research in nanotechnology. The sources of information available in WIT Libraries include books, journals, audio-visual and music materials.

Who can join as an External Borrower?

Members of the public who are interested in joining the library are very welcome to do so. 
Categories currently catered for include:

  • Graduates of WIT - €50.00
  • Retired members of WIT staff – Free
  • Individual membership, including graduates of other Irish third level institutes and colleges - €80.00
  • Institutional membership - Not-for-profit sector - €50.00
  • Institutional membership - Corporate - 5 members - €350.00
  • Unemployed & Senior Citizens - €40.00

How do I join as an External Borrower?

All prospective applicants should arrange to call to the library Information Desk,
Tel: (051) 302840, E-mail: libinfo@wit.ie.

The procedure for joining as an external borrower is as follows:
You will need to present 2 forms of ID at the desk:     

1. Photo ID e.g. Passport, Driver's licence

2. Proof of Address e.g. Bill, Bank statement

Note: If you are a WIT graduate, bring along proof of same e.g. copy of WIT qualification

You will also need to complete 2 forms in the library:

1. General Application form, which we keep for the library records

2. WIT Card Application form, which is used to set you up with a library card

Note: Payment is by cash or cheque - see breakdown of fees above.

What are my Library Entitlements?

Your library card gives you access to the two libraries at WIT. As an external borrower, you are also entitled to borrow up to 6 books at a time (four 2 week loans and two 2 day loans).

What are the main Library Rules?

The main library rules are as follows:

  • Only patrons with a current WIT card are entitled to use the library
  • The use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited
  • No food or drinks are to be consumed in the library
